My eye caught a glimpse of something white in the park’s expanse of green. I went to investigate and my heart was touched. I remembered tearfully burying a bunny in a shoebox once, in my grandma’s garden. This pet had no such sanctuary...
As I went walking in the park,
I spied this little mark of love.
A weeping child I did not know
Has left this tribute to her bird
Guarded by dying flowers
And her plea to leave him undisturbed.
My heart is sad for her loss
And perhaps for her–
The bird so far away from her back yard,
And I wonder why...
